Hearing FAQs

Audiology is a science that studies hearing, balance, and related ear/hearing disorders. Audiologists can help those with hearing loss by testing hearing and prescribing hearing aids. If you have hearing loss, tinnitus, or another problem with your hearing, our expert team of audiologists can help you.

If one ear feels muffled or you can’t hear at all, you should contact us immediately. Muffled hearing can be a sign of impacted earwax or sudden hearing loss. We can test your hearing and determine the cause of your muffled hearing.

No, hearing aids do not cause vertigo, dizziness, or any other balance problem. If you are experiencing dizziness alongside hearing loss, this is common. This is because our sense of balance comes from within the cochlea, which is also home of the hearing nerve. For this reason, you may experience hearing loss and balance problems together.

Unfortunately there is no cure for tinnitus. Tinnitus itself is not a disease, but rather a symptom of another condition. Tinnitus often presents itself as a buzzing, humming, or ringing sound in the ears or head. While there is no one cure for tinnitus, there are treatment options that can help alleviate ringing in the ears. If you are interested in tinnitus treatments, contact our office.

Yes, at Spencer Audiology Clinic, we carry rechargeable hearing aids. With these devices, you won’t have to worry about changing mini hearing aid batteries. Instead, you simply place your hearing aids in their charging station. Rechargeable devices are a great option for those with dexterity issues or those with busy lifestyles. There are many styles of instruments with rechargeable batteries, including in the ear options.

Hearing aids have an average lifespan of 3-7 years. To get the most out of your devices, it’s important to bring them in for regular maintenance checks and to clean them every day. Although hearing aids can last you for many years, many patients like to update their technology every 3-5 years to take advantage of the new advancements and features.
